Berlin

Christmas was over and we needed a break from work for a while, we both managed to get the same time off work for a week and booked ourselves on a trip to Berlin with a bus company that we have travelled with a few times before. We found ourselves a nice hotel close to Alexanderplatzs, which is quite central and close to an area called Prenzlauer Berg.
We have stayed in the Prenzlauer Berg area before, and had a fabulous time in the Cafes restaurants and quirky shops, so we were looking forward to going back there this time.
Our bus dropped us off at the hotel at around 1400, so we checked into the room, dropped off our bags and were straight out and checking out our area.
As we were so close, we decided that we would have a long walk up to Prenzlauer Berg, to shake off the bus and work up a thirst and a hunger.
Well, we walked and walked and walked! we finaly reached somewhere that looked similar to the area that we had stayed in, so guessed we were in the right area, but as we are so useless, we had forgotten the name of the streets, hotels, nearest tram stop, so we were completly stuck as to where exactly this cool area was! We ended up in a busy square with a few cafes around it, and sat down to have a beer, and with help from the lonely planet guide book, we found another little street called Eberswalderstrasse, that sounded just right for us as we had completly given up looking for the other area!
The first palce that we found we were so tired and thristy we had to stop and grab a beer. It turned out that we had actually found the nicest coziest little cafe/pub that we could've. The entrance was rather small, with the bar taking up most of the space, apart from one small table by the door. The room next to it was FULL of second hand armchairs, sofas and coffe tables, making it so cozy and comfortable. German lounge music in the background, a soft bouncy chair to sink into and nice cold beers in our hands, we got comfy and started chatting to the German couple that we were sharing the table with. The toilets were the sweetest I have ever seen in a bar. The ladies toilet had a small little table on it with hand knitted doilie, and a vase with a single rose in it. Next to this was a chest of drawers with an 20's stlye radio on top of it. Each drawer contained anything that a girl would need, from cotton wool buds, make up remover, nail files, and a whole heap of other useful stuff. The best bit though, was the fact that there was an arm chair on either side ot the toilet seat, so that when you are horrid and drunk and have to go to the toilets to have a cry with your girlie friends, you all have somewhere to sit! genius!!
A few hours later, we were moving on to another bar on Danziger strasse, not far away. The girl left and went home, while Claus called his friend and he met us at the next place. It was a trendy little joint, with a huge bar and great music and a hip atmosphere.
We made a plan with these guys, that because it was only a sunday night and not much would be going on, that we would meet them on Tuesday night same time same place to have a good night out with them, and on that note, we both realised how hungry we were and left those two to it while we both fell into the nearest Indian restaurant round the coner (for my own records it was on schonhauser Alle) After stuffing ourselves silly with great food, we recieved the bill and found out that the bill was half price as it is 2 for 1 on Sundays, perfect!
